KIND-HEARTED staff and customers at a Wigan supermarket have collected more than £3,000 for The Poppy Appeal.

Volunteers and fund-raisers from The Poppy Appeal set up a stall in Asda, in Golborne, with posters and information, and customers donated £3,600 for the cause.

Julie McPherson, service manager at Asda, said: “Members of The Poppy Appeal have been coming to our store for years.

“With the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, it is important to help, plus one of our managers has a son who has returned from Afghanistan.

“It is fantastic we have raised all that money in a few days. People have been very generous.”
