Stunners wanted for Miss England competition

The hunt is on to find Wigan's most glamorous girls.

Wigan's women are being sought to represent the town in the 2010 Miss England competition.

Organisers say it is much more than a traditional beauty pageant or modelling competition, and they want Miss Wigan to be an ambassador for the area.

The qualities needed to impress the judges will include someone who is well-presented, confident and able to communicate easily.

Event organiser Nadia Musa said: "We haven't had anyone representing Wigan in the Miss England final for a few years, so it's important that this year we have an ambassador to represent the town.

"We're hoping as many local girls as possible enter the competition so we can show the rest of the UK that some of the most beautiful and intelligent girls in the country come from the Wigan area."

The winner will be actively encouraged to use their title to promote the area and raise the profile of many worthy causes throughout their year.

Miss Wigan 2010 will, amongst other prizes, win a place in the Miss England semi-final, where she will have a chance to go onto Miss World 2010.

The Miss World competition will be held in Vietnam, where the main prize is $100,000.

Last year's competition winner, Lance Corporal Katrina Hodge, has launched the 2010 search for Miss Wigan.

Katrina, a serving soldier decorated for bravery in Iraq, scooped the crown last year and represented England at Miss World in Johannesburg.

Wigan's hopefuls for Miss Wigan have until Friday, February 26 to enter via the website on www.misswigan.co.uk

They must be aged between 17 and 24, and must never have been married or have children.

This year they aim to raise money for the Variety Club Children's Charity.

The Wigan final will be on May 10 at the DW Stadium.
