THE sun came out on the 2500 Wigan 10k runners and the crowds flocked to cheer on the participants on an historic day for the town.
Sir Bradley Wiggins started the race at 10am on the dot when athletes, fun runners and people in fancy dress set off on the first-ever 10k in the town.
Wiggins, sporting a beard, counted down the runners and off they set - with the eventual winner returning in just over half an hour.
It was as if the whole town had turned up to either participate or cheer on the runners, with a variety of stalls and fun and games for all the family helping to create a warm and friendly atmosphere.
