ADULTS with learning disabilities are testing out their entrepreneurial skills by selling treats on Wigan market.

Members of the Just BU Community Interest Company have been decorating cakes with the help of Ashley and Jeanette Cartwright, the owners of As Sweet As Honey Cakes And Balloons, in Twist Lane, Leigh.

The group sold its creations, including chocolate lollies with edible logos, at a recent Wigan Council Transition event to show the skills and opportunities on offer for people with learning disabilities.

And the team will now run a stall at Wigan Outdoor Market over the next three Thursdays to develop their business talents as part of the National Love Your Local Market event.

Justin Felllows, who runs Just BU, based in Tyldesley, said: “We want to say a big thank you to Ashley and Jeanette for offering the young adults these opportunities. Ashley’s previous employment was in social care for adults with learning disabilities.

“As part of the newly opened shop, her family decided to give something back to the community and support Just BU.”
