A MANHUNT has been lauched for a cowardly thug who robbed a 12-year-old Wigan schoolgirl.

The 12-year-old girl was knocked to the ground and had her mobile stolen as the unkempt stranger attacked her as she walked through a housing estate with friends.

The mugging took place at around 7.35pm on Tuesday when the victim was in Worsley Mesnes Drive, Worsley Mesnes, with her two pals.

The man came up behind her, knocked her to the pavement and the impact caused her mobile phone and money to fall out of her pocket. The man made off with a £5 note.

He is described as white, in his late 30s or early 40s, had stubble on his face and was wearing black tracksuit bottoms, a dark coloured beany hat and a red coat.

PC Chris Waddicar, from the Volume Crime Team at Wigan Police Station, said “I am keen to hear from anybody who saw this incident or was in the vicinity at the time of the offence.

“I would also urge anybody who thinks they know who is responsible or has overheard someone talking about this incident to get in touch.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 0161 856 7255.
