Widnes have announced the departure of experienced forward Danny Tickle.

The 33-year-old goalkicking second rower has not played for the First Utility Super League leaders this season after being involved in an incident outside Queen’s nightclub in Ashton in November.

The Vikings announced at the time that Golborne-born Tickle (right) had been admitted to hospital with head injuries but was expected to make a full recovery.

In a statement last night, the club said: “Widnes Vikings and Danny Tickle have mutually agreed an immediate release from the player’s 2016 playing contract.

“Danny has played an important part in the transition of Widnes Vikings during our formative Super League years and everybody involved with the club wish Danny and his family the very best of luck for the future.”

Tickle scored 248 points from 45 appearances for Widnes after joining them from Hull in 2014 and previously played for Halifax and Wigan. He was in Wigan’s 2003 Grand Final team and was in the Hull side that lost to Wigan in the Challenge Cup final at Wembley in 2013.
