A SWEET-toothed thief stole cash from a shop just as he was paying for his chocolate bar.
Police today released CCTV images of the man who struck at the check-out at Darlington Street’s Lidl supermarket.
He had queued up to pay for a small item of confectionary, but as the cashier opened the till drawer, the customer suddenly reached over, grabbed a fistful of cash and ran out of the store. He was chased by a staff member but managed to escape, last being seen heading in the direction of Warrington Road.
The camera pictures were today released from the incident on Saturday, June 15 along with an appeal for witnesses from officers.
The thief was white, around 6ft tall, of medium build, wearing a dark jacket, dark baseball cap and large dark sunglasses.
PC Richard Kelsall, based at Wigan police station, said: “The images we have released of this man are of good quality and we are sure someone will recognise him. This man thought that sticking his hand in the till to steal a wad of notes was an easy way to earn himself some cash, but we are actively making enquiries to identify and arrest him.
“If anyone knows who this person is, or if you have any other information that may assist our investigation, please get in touch.”
