WIGAN’S Sam Tomkins is proud to bare all to get behind the 2012 Olympics.
The Warriors full-back has joined most of the Four Nations rugby squad in stripping for an Olympic-themed calendar, as part of international team-mate Adrian Morley’s testimonial fund-raising drive.
The 22-year-old is now in Florida with his Wigan colleagues for a warm-weather training camp, but he revealed he was delighted to take part, posting on Twitter that he was Mr February.
He tweeted: “I can’t wait for February, so I can have this pic hanging in my kitchen.”
He also joked that there had been some serious air brushing on the photos, before dashing hopes of a full Wigan Warriors nude calendar.
He said: “No, the Wigan team won’t be doing a nudey calendar for the people asking. Leave that to the models.”
Morley revealed the calendar helped relieve some of the tension in the build-up to the international final.
He said: “It was done the afternoon before the final last month.
“I was a bit concerned when I asked the boys if they would do it, but once training was out of the way, they were long days and they were brilliant.
“The Olympic theme was my idea, but my original plan was to do a decathlon plus a picture on a podium and one other, but someone said, ‘What about doing different Olympic sports?’
“But I’m really happy with they way the pictures have come out.”
The calendar – which is titled 2012 Naked Men – also features Jamie Peacock, Australian-based Gareth Ellis, Jack Reed, Chris Heighington, Ben Westwood, Leroy Cudjoe, Ryan Hall and Tom Briscoe, and was shot at a studio in Leeds in one afternoon.
Morley plans to sell it in every Super League club shop, and hopes it will benefit the Wooden Spoon charity, which helps disadvantaged children, and the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital, as he is an ambassador there.
2012 Naked Men costs £10 and is available at www.adrianmorley.co.uk, and from next week at Super League club shops.
