AN 82-year-old woman was taken to Wigan Infirmary after the campervan she was travelling in overturned on the M6.
Emergency crews were called to the scene between junction 23 and junction 24 of the northbound carriage way on the M6 at 2.15pm yesterday afternoon.
A fire crew from Wigan and one from Haydock assisted with relieving the pensioner from the vehicle before she was sent to hospital.
Traffic came to a virtual standstill as two lanes were temporarily shut on the motorway as the woman was rescued.
It is believed the woman was travelling with her husband who freed himself.
