FLORAL tributes have been laid at the scene of a crash in which a Wigan teenager was fatally injured.

The as-yet-unnamed 16-year-old was crossing Golborne’s Nook Lane near its junction with Derby Road on Saturday evening when he was in collision with a Range Rover Evoque.

The youngster was taken to hospital where he died of his injuries.

Officers from GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit attended the scene and launched an investigation.

The 32-year-old driver of the Land Rover was not detained. Nook Lane was closed for around six hours following the 9pm accident while the police carried out their investigations.

PC Paul Shore said: “We need anyone who may have been in the area at the time, or perhaps saw what happened to contact us so we can try and ascertain the exact circumstances of this collision.”

Anyone with information is asked to call the Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 0161 856 4742 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously on 0800 555111.
