TRIBUTES have been paid to a Beech Hill man who detectives say was murdered in Wigan last week.

Francis Farrell of Beech Hill was found with a head injury at around 4.10am on Sunday, June 17, on Frog Lane.

The 56-year-old, known locally to his friends as Fran, France, and Franny, was said by family members to be a much loved gentle man.

He was last seen leaving Wiend Bar in Wigan town centre at about 3.50am. He was then seen on CCTV walking down Frog Lane at 3.58am and a passerby who found him called the ambulance service.

Police are treating his death as murder.
