Upon arrival, two men in the Land Rover attempted to drive away but crashed into an elderly couple in a silver Mercedes and a garden wall at the junction with Vicarage Road.

This caused the wall to collapse and a lamppost to come down as well as the Land Rover being completely flipped over onto its roof.

Paramedics and an air ambulance arrived to treat the casualties with the couple being taken to Wigan Infirmary with minor injuries.

And two men have been arrested for theft of a motor vehicle, with one of them also attending the hospital.
