A VAN crash at a Wigan railway bridge caused delays on the West Coast mainline.
Police were called to an incident involving a transit van under the bridge on Bradley Lane in Standish at 11am.
British Transport Police and Network Rail attended the scene to check the structural integrity of the bridge.
A spokesman for Network Rail said: “The damage to the bridge was not significant and we did not need to stop trains from crossing the bridge.
“Train services were slowed to 20mph as a precaution and eight trains were delayed for about 10 minutes or so.
“An engineer has checked the site and deemed that the bridge has suffered no adverse effects and the line is now running at full service as of midday.”
