Vic’s epic trip in memory of wife
Vic Heaney at The Dover Lock at Abram on route on a walk from The South of France to Blackpool
A DETERMINED 70-year-old man walked for 70 days in honour of his late wife.
Vic Heaney walked from his present home in the French Pyrenees, to his childhood home in Blackpool to raise money for Pancreatic Cancer Research, in memory of his wife, Gaile, who died 16 years ago, aged 53, from the illness.
Gaile was the niece of Stanley Mortensen, the only footballer to score a hat-trick in the FA Cup Final in Wembley.
The father-of-three and grandfather-of-four covered 14,000km and found time to stop off in Wigan, where he used to visit as a child.
Vic said: “I wanted to do something to mark my 70th birthday, so I thought of walking backwards through my life and calling in at various places where I have spent my life. I arrived at the house I was born on my 70th birthday.”
Vic has almost reached his target of raising £7,000. To find out more about Vic’s journey, visit http://vicsbigwalk.blogspot.com.
