A MAN has been found hanged from a bridge in Wigan.

A passer-by is believed to have made the grim discovery early yesterday morning underneath Britannia Bridge on Warrington Road, Ince.

A section of the canal was cordoned off between the former Shepherd’s Arms pub and Leigh Street as the investigation was launched.

A Wigan police spokesman said: “Shortly after 6am on Monday April 4, police were called to the Britannia Bridge on Warrington Road following reports of a man found hanging.

“Officers attended and found the body of a man, believed to be in his 30s.

“Police inquiries are ongoing though there are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances.”

The coroner is understood to have been informed.
