POLICE chiefs have sent a warning to Wigan revellers, revealing that mobile phone thefts are on the rise.

And as nightlife in the town centre gets busier, they are urging folk to be on their guard.

One of the key areas for mobile phone thefts is King Street and, via their Wigan West Facebook page, police have sent out a clear warning.

A spokesman said: “We have had an increase of reports in the last few weeks whereby mobile phones been taken, especially in the night time economy on King Street.

“Can you please ensure that your mobile devices are secure on your person. Be vigilant around others and report any suspicious activity. Dial 101.” A Crime Prevention Day is being held today at Robin Retail Park between 10am and 2pm.

The local police team will be offering crime prevention advice and leaflets, offering the chance for residents to meet their local PCSOs and PCs.

Home watch will be attending to mark pedal-cycles and mobile phones and will be available to register phones on the national property register.

People can also pick up an ultra-violet marker pen to label other personal valuable items such as laptops, games consoles and work tools as well as anti-tamper safe number plate security equipment.
