Warriors say no to 'exorcist'
It is not just Kris Radlinski who is riding to the aid of Wigan Warriors.
Self-styled ghostbuster Dean Maynard believes he can change the Warriors' ailing fortunes.
Dean believes the current gloom that sees the rugby team lying at the bottom of the table could be lifted by his super skills.
The Newcastle-based paranormal investigator already claims to have helped a number of sporting teams out of the doldrums, including the Chicago White Sox who won the World Series for the first time in 87 years; Darlington, who gained victory for the first time in eight games; and Reading, who achieved their first ever promotion since his special gift materialised 12 months ago.
He claims to have helped six teams in all.
Dean said: "When I was about 14 years old I was a huge fan of Wigan and their team at that time was unstoppable. I want to help them in any way I can by trying to give them that extra bit of luck they will need to survive.
"Just over a year ago one of the players saw a ghost at Sunderland's ground and after that they had the most miserable luck. I went down there and did what I do and they started winning again. After that other people started contacting me and I would say 99% of the time it works.
"I know it sounds strange, I carry out a ritual before the game and think positively.
Dean has offered his services to the club free of charge for this Sunday's game against Catalan Dragons, all he's asking for in return is complimentary tickets.
A spokesman for Wigan Warriors said: "We'd like to thank him very much for his kind offer but it's not something the club would be interested in."
