A MURDER investigation has been launched after a Wigan dad suffered fatal head injuries in a suspected street attack - just yards from his front door.
Wayne Mitchell spent last Friday evening drinking with friends in Liverpool before being discovered by a passing taxi driver lying face down on Townsend Lane, Anfield, at 2.30am on Saturday.
The 42-year-old was rushed to the Royal Liverpool Hospital but his head injuries were so serious that, tragically, he passed away on Monday morning.
A Home Office post-mortem examination subsequently confirmed that Mr Mitchell, who was originally from Ashton-in-Makerfield but was living in Lampeter Road, Anfield, at the time, died as a result of blunt force trauma to the head.
