WIGAN has been gridlocked as shoppers finally put the gloom of the recession behind them to spend, spend, spend.
With just five trading days to Christmas, thousands descended on the town centre to give the high street the last-minute festive boost it needed.
The scramble caused motoring mayhem throughout the town with traffic jams on every arterial route and by lunchtime virtually every car parking space had been taken, with the real-time electronic matrix signs in the town centre which advise about the status of the multi-storey car parks flashing full.
That means more than 3,500 places had been taken by customers looking to snap up a bargain.
