A MAN risked his life to drag a friend from a blazing Wigan flat.
Fire crews were called to Meadow Court, off Woodhouse Lane, Wigan, at 12.50pm on Friday, following reports that part of it had been deliberately set alight.
But they discovered that a rescue had been carried out. Three men had been in the building when the blaze started and two managed to escape by jumping out of a window.
When the escapees realised the third man wasn’t with them, one of the men bravely went back into the burning flat by using a ladder then dragged the remaining occupant out.
It is understood that someone had set fire to a sofa, which had been deliberately placed behind the front door.
One man was taken to Wigan Infirmary suffering from the effects of smoke inhalation and was given a psychiatric assessment.
Police and fire crews are currently investigating the cause of the fire.
