A WOMAN has been arrested after a man was stabbed in the back in Wigan this morning.
A 22-year-old male victim remains in hospital with “life-threatening” injuries.
Police say they were called to Whelley Labour Club on Northumberland Street at around 6.15am. It’s believed the incident happened on an area of land behind it.
A 30-year-old woman, believed to be his partner, has been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent and is now helping police with their enquiries.
Local residents say that an area of land on the corner of the junction of Platt Lane and Northumberland Street was sealed off for several hours.
This cordon has since been removed but a police presence remains around a house on Platt Lane.
Detective Sergeant Stephen Baldan of GMP’s Wigan Division said: “We have a team of detectives investigating this incident and we have made an arrest.
“The man is in hospital where he is in a life-threatening but stable condition and is receiving treatment.”
Anyone with information they wish to pass on is asked to call police on 101, or the independent charity, Crimestoppers, on 0800 555 111.
