POLICE in Wigan are appealing for information after a man armed with a baseball bat damaged a woman’s car at a roundabout.

At around 5:20am on Tuesday, a woman approached Montrose roundabout in Wigan whilst she was making her way to work.

As she slowed down at the roundabout, a grey 4 x 4 car pulled across the road blocking her route.

The offender then got out of his car and attempted to open the victim’s driver side door which was locked. After failing in his attempt to gain access to the car, the man then grabbed a baseball bat from his car and smashed the wing mirror of the victim’s car off.

The woman then mounted the pavement and drove away, leaving the offender behind.

The offender is described as a white, clean shaven male with short brown mousey hair. He is between 5 foot 4 inches and 5 foot 5 inches tall and is of slim build. He was wearing a navy blue jumper and blue jeans.

Police are appealing for anybody who may have any information which would identify the offender to come forward.

Sergeant Brian Gaskell said: “This poor woman was making her way to work when she suffered this terrifying ordeal. Luckily there is only minor damage to the car and she has not suffered any injuries but it could have been a lot worse if the offender had managed to gain entry to the car.

“I would appeal for anyone who has any information about this incident to please contact the police.”
