A GYM exclusively for women which says it has faced it toughest year yet has been nominated for two awards

The Ladybird Fitness Club in Newtown is up for Ladies-Only Gym of the Year and Gym Team of the Year categories in this year’s National Fitness Awards.

The team will discover their fate at a lavish ceremony on November 30 in Leicester.

Sandra McGugan, manager, said: “Last year we were shortlisted for the Ladies-Only Gym of The Year category, but we didn’t win, so we are hoping to be successful this year. Last year our membership was full and we were going from strength to strength.

“But, this year has been our toughest one yet, as a new gym has opened around the corner from us and Wigan Life Centre’s new facilities have affected us.

“So we are fighting our competition off.

“Competitors try to dilute us, but we are still here and we are not going anywhere.

“We would love to win the Ladies-Only Gym of the Year as a way of showing what we are made of and giving us a boost. It would be great for the staff and clients.

“To be shortlisted is really good as so many fitness centres enter.”

The gym, which has been running for six years, was presented with the Gym Team of the Year award in 2010, by Olympic swimmer Sharron Davies.

This year, the event will be hosted by Charlotte Ord, fitness trainer on ITV1’s hit show, The Biggest Loser.

Sandra added: “We can’t wait for the event.

“We love to get dressed up and meet the celebrities who attend.”
