Youth need opportunites

Have your say

Because of the Coalition’s disastrous economic policy, youth unemployment has reached a record high and young people in Wigan who cannot find work are losing their confidence.

Since this Tory/Lib Dem Government came into power, they have axed the Education Allowance which helped over 3,000 young Wiganers to stay on at College; axed the Future Jobs Fund which gave apprenticeships a guaranteed job at the end.

I must applaud Lisa Nandy MP for her national campaign to save the Education Maintenance Allowance and a call for a Windfall Tax on bankers bonuses to fund apprenticeships for young people.

We need more firms to provide apprenticeships, lasting paid jobs and career opportunities to our youth and next generation.

Coun Lawrence Hunt.
