WIGAN Athletic goalkeeper Lee Nicholls is wanted beyond the end of the season by Northampton boss Aidy Boothroyd.
Nicholls, an England Under-20s international, has been instrumental in the Cobblers’ rise to third in League Two during his loan spell.
His 15 clean sheets have helped propel Town to an automatic promotion spot with just five matches remaining.
And Boothroyd said: “Wigan are happy with Lee’s development and I have to say I’m absolutely delighted with how he’s done.
“He is getting better and better and we’d love to have him for another year.”
Mike Pollitt can certainly see the advantages of Nicholls remaining at Sixfields beyond the summer.
“It’s been a great move for him, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see him go out on loan again next year,” said Pollitt.
“It’s pointless him coming back here and not playing.
“Who knows, if Northampton do go up this year they might want him back, which would give him some League One experience.”
