UWE Rosler is expected to wheel out the big guns tonight in Wigan Athletic’s final pre-season frendly of the summer.
Latics bring down the curtain on their 10-day German training camp with a clash against local outfit SC Paderborn.
And with the big Championship opener against Reading only eight days away, the Latics chief’s selection should prove a huge hint as to what he considers to be his strongest side.
“It’s a real opportunity for the gaffer to play his first XI or as close as can be, with an eye on the Reading game next weekend,” admitted defender Gary Caldwell.
“All of pre-season he’ll have been thinking about the opening game and what his team will be – it’s all been about getting ready for that.
“It’s going to be a long season, though, and we don’t want to peak too early. We need to be there at the end as well as the start, and anyone who isn’t quite right won’t be pushed too early.
“It’s a marathon, not a sprint, and we’re preparing for the long haul. We want to be the strongest team in the league and we want to make sure we there at the end when it matters.”
