Goalkeeper Matt Gilks says Wigan Athletic’s players have appreciated the straight-talking of interim boss Graham Barrow, who has ‘laid down the law’ from the off.
The Latics players have been taking the opportunity to rest weary legs and minds this week during the international break, before the intensity picks up again next week ahead of the final push that will decide their fate.
It’s also been a good chance for Barrow to sit back and stock after a whirlwind few weeks that saw him catapulted from the backroom staff to main man following Warren Joyce’s departure.
Although his reign didn’t get off to the ideal start against Aston Villa, Gilks says the players have been enthused by the change.
“After Warren went Graham has taken over and laid the law down straight away, what he expects of people,” acknowledged Gilks.
“He’s a big part of this club and he’s very passionate about it.
“We are now regrouping and hopefully have a good rest, because there are very tough games coming up.”
