Gary Caldwell admits he ‘would have looked into’ the possibility of Francisco Junior back to Wigan Athletic if the opportunity had arose.
The 24-year-old midfielder spent the first half of the season on loan at Wigan from Everton, only to return to Goodison Park just before Christmas with a ‘hernia-type’ injury.
Junior this week joined Norwegian club Stromsgodset on a permanent deal.
And Caldwell admitted the door had been open for a return to Wigan if circumstances had been different.
“He’s somebody who did excellently while he was here despite a couple of niggling injuries,” the Wigan boss said.
“If the opportunity had come up to take him back we would have looked into it, but it never really materialised.
“We wish him well, he’s a fantastic talent and hopefully he finds a home in which he can settle and show off that talent.”
