GARY Caldwell has promised to send out a team good enough to keep Wigan Athletic on the Wembley trail at Crewe tonight.

Latics take a break from league duty with the JPT taking centre-stage. And Caldwell has pledged to do the competition justice.

“You want to win any competition you enter – and we’re no different,” Caldwell said.

“It’s obviously not the priority in terms of the season as a whole.

“But there’s a trip at Wembley at the end of it, and this club over the last few years knows how special those days can be. Let’s hope this is the start of a journey back there.”

Caldwell will shuffle his pack, although JPT rules prevent clubs making more than five changes to their last line-up.

“Some players have played a lot of games, others need a bit more game-time,” Caldwell added. “Our squad is big, and some players deserve the opportunity to play.”

Jack Hendry, Andy Kellett and Sanmi Odelusi are in line to start the game, while Grant Holt could be on the bench. Will

Grigg and Donald Love are away on international duty.
