GARY Caldwell believes Wigan Athletic were the victim of a huge injustice as skipper Craig Morgan saw red in the 0-0 draw against Walsall.
Morgan, making his first appearance in five weeks, was sent off 20 minutes from time by referee Andy Haines for tripping Kieron Morris on the edge of the Wigan box.
It was the third time in the last five matches that Latics have been reduced to 10 men, after Leon Barnett and Jordan Flores were sent off at Port Vale and Oldham respectively.
Caldwell pointed to an almost identical incident in the first half, when Walsall defender James O’Connor fouled Jordy Hiwula only to escape with a yellow card, as proof his men were harshly treated.
“If Morgs goes, their man goes in the first half,” fumed Caldwell.
“They were similar incidents, one’s a red and one’s a yellow, and it seems we’re finishing the game with 10 men every week at the minute.
“I don’t think today was bad luck. I think it was probably bad refereeing.
“It’s hard enough to win games, and I was frustrated with some of his decisions.
“He’s got to be fair for both teams, and it feels like we’re not only playing against Walsall, we’re also playing against that as well.
“It was a very hard-earned point in the end.
“But the boys battled very hard to see out the game and it was a great clean sheet.”
