THIS is the first picture of Latics’ new third kit.
Wigan Athletic have looked to the history books for the inspiration for the all-red look.
The design lends itself to some of the Latics kits of old, kits that have been synonymous with the club including the Division Two title winning side in 2002/03, the side that famously beat Chelsea in the FA Cup in 1979 and the colours in which we began our existence back in 1932.
Fans will be able to get their hands on the new shirt next Tuesday, August 7 from the club shop in the Galleries, Wigan, online at wiganathletic.com/shop and from the DW Sports stores in Wigan, St Helens and Leigh.
Adult short sleeved shirts are available for £39.99 with juniors available at £29.99.
This season’s training range will also be available to purchase from Latics’ own retailers. Earlier in the summer Wigan revealed their new strips – a blue and white striped home kit, and a black away kit.
Roberto Martinez’s side open the new season in front of the Sky Sports cameras on Sunday, August 19.
l THE future of Wigan Athletic target Ivan Ramis was still up in the air last night.
Premier League newboys West Ham agreed a £4million fee with the defender’s club Real Mallorca on Sunday and he travelled to London for a medical with the Hammers.
Since then though, no announcement has been made, with Ramis reportedly stalling, such is his desire to link up with Latics boss and fellow countryman Martinez. It is now up to Wigan to match West Ham’s offer or look elsewhere.
Either way, Martinez has reassured fans he is working feverishly to bolster his ranks for the new campaign.
Despite seeing his side enjoy an unbeaten run in their pre-season friendlies, the Spaniard realises he still needs to strengthen.
And he doesn’t want to be running around chasing targets on transfer deadline day, August 31.
Instead, he wants to have “two or three” signings done and dusted before a ball is kicked.
He is also keen to keep hold of Victor Moses, who has interested Chelsea.
