OWEN Coyle says defender Juan Carlos Garcia is getting close to featuring for Wigan Athletic.
The Honduran enjoyed a solid performance for the development squad on Tuesday with the Latics manager watching on.
Garcia was meant to be away on international duty like eight of his teammates but his match was cancelled.
“He’s integrating with the group and they’ve really taken to him,” said Coyle.
“Now we get the chance to play him in a reserve game and after that he’s ready for first team action.
“What we’ve got to do is integrate him. He’s got bits of English here and there and he’s done very well with that.
“He’s come in and he’s done very well in training. It’s great that he’s here as opposed to being away for an international friendly because the Honduras game was cancelled.”
Garcia was Coyle’s fifth summer signing and, like the other nine new boys, has settled in well.
Coyle added: “I have to give enormous credit to the boys that have inherited this team, the existing players who have been at Wigan Athletic, because their attitude has been first class.
“Sometimes people come back with a bruised ego and they think they’re better than they are. The only way you get back to the Premier League is by earning it and obviously the new boys that have come in with the desire they’ve got to make Wigan Athletic be successful.”
FORMER Latics striker Franco di Santo has signed for Werder Bremen.
