WIGAN Athletic have confirmed the signing of -defender Leon Barnett from Norwich City.
The 27-year-old has become manager Owen Coyle’s ninth signing of the summer.
Barnett has signed a three-year-deal at the DW Stadium and has joined for an undisclosed fee.
Coyle spoke of his delight at securing his latest signing and thinks he will bring a lot to the club.
He said: “As manager, to see the desire Leon has to play for Wigan Athletic is tremendous and we’re all delighted to have enticed a player of his calibre to our club.
“He has shown his qualities in the Premier League on numerous occasions and has the experience of being successful in a division as tough as the Championship, winning promotion on three separate occasions.
“That kind of experience for someone who is still only 27 years old is fantastic, and I believe that whilst he has much maturity in his play he also has huge potential to become an even better player here at Wigan Athletic.”
Barnett spent three years at Norwich, making 50 appearances and scoring two goals.
He has a couple of previous teammates at Latics including former Caneries frontman Grant Holt and Marc Antoine Fortune, who he played with at West Brom.
His other previous clubs include Luton Town and Conventry City.
