The in-form schemer was substituted at half-time during the 1-0 win at Wolves in midweek, and is facing a race against time to prove his fitness for the visit of North End.

“Michael could be struggling for the weekend, he has a little hamstring strain,” revealed boss Warren Joyce.

“He had fatigue in his hamstring in the first half on Tuesday, and we’ll probably know a bit more later in the week.

“Apart from that everyone should be okay, after being dusted down.

“We had a light session on Thursday and we’ll pick it up again on Friday.”

On-loan Derby midfielder Jamie Hanson, who took over from Jacobs at Molineux, is standing by to make his first Latics start.

“We know Jamie can play in a variety of roles, he’s played in two already for us,” Joyce added.

“It’s been a good start for him, he’s a young kid who’s come here, who wants to play football, and wants to do well.

“He’s a good character, he’s settled in well, and he’s ready if we need him.”
