WIGAN Athletic and Walsall shared a goalless draw in their behind-closed-doors friendly at Christopher Park this afternoon.
In the first ‘proper’ hit-out of pre-season, Uwe Rosler again took the opportunity to give game-time to 21 players with less than a month to go to the big kick-off against Reading on August 9.
Latics came closest to breaking the deadlock in the first of three 30-minute periods when the impressive James Tavernier rattled the crossbar with a stinging drive from distance.
Ivan Ramis also saw a goalbound drive, from Martyn Waghorn’s corner, blocked by a desperate defender as Latics controlled the game but couldn’t convert their pressure into goals.
At the other end, Lee Nicholls made a couple of important saves early on before giving way to Ali Al Habsi, who was a virtual spectator for the rest of the game.
