LATICS continued their recent resurgence under Uwe Rosler with a convincing victory over Bournemouth.
And just as encouraging for Rosler was the fact they barely had to get out of second gear to do so.
In truth, this game should have been out of sight by the half-hour mark, such was Wigan’s complete and utter dominance.
But only Marc-Antoine Fortune’s fifth-minute effort separated the two sides at the break, and that lead was looking precarious as the Cherries started the second period with renewed confidence.
Latics grabbed the crucial second goal just before the hour mark when Fortune’s shot was deflected past Lee Camp by Elliott Ward.
And Jordi Gomez put the icing on the cake with a brilliant goal right on the full-time whistle from fully 30 yards.
Bournemouth threatened a consolation in stoppage-time, but Ali Al Habsi was alert enough to secure his fourth clean sheet on the spin in the league.
