LATICS are understood to be on the verge of making Newcastle United right-back James Tavernier their third summer signing.
Uwe Rosler has already landed a pair of left-backs in Cardiff’s Andrew Taylor and Aaron Taylor-Sinclair from Partick Thistle.
And Toon starlet Tavernier is believed to be poised to join Rosler’s Latics revolution for an undisclosed fee.
The 22-year-old has yet to make a league start for Newcastle, having come through the ranks on Tyneside.
But the Bradford-born ace has shown his promise during loan spells at Carlisle, Sheffield Wednesday, MK Dons, Shrewbury and Rotherham.
Tavernier really came of age last season, helping Rotherham win promotion to the Championship via the play-offs.
He scored five goals in 27 appearances for the Millers, which helped persuade Rosler to make his move.
The Latics chief has already outlined his plan to have a promising youngster battling a more established star for every position next term.
And with Taylor and Taylor-Sinclair becoming the new left-back options, Tavernier should provide competition for James Perch down the opposite flank.
