Latics chairman Dave Whelan last night submitted his response to the FA regarding comments attributed to him that were of an allegedly racist nature.
The quotes appeared last week in a national newspaper, where he was defending his decision to appoint Malky Mackay as Wigan boss, and he has since apologised.
The FA admitted to being ‘very concerned to read about the comments’, and promised to deal with the matter ‘as a priority’.
The FA last night confirmed they have received Whelan’s observations regarding his recent comments.
Whelan claimed at the weekend, in an interview with ITV News, that he would resign from his post if found guilty.
“Should they even suggest I’m guilty I would immediately resign from my position as chairman of Wigan Athletic,” he said.
