WIGAN Athletic are closing in on a new striker who will hopefully give them a greater cutting edge next season.
Boss Uwe Rosler admitted at the end of last term that finding a new hitman would be his ‘top priority’ during the off-season.
And after snapping up left-backs Andrew Taylor and Aaron Taylor-Sinclair, Rosler has apparently identified the forward he believes will give Latics greater options up top.
Rosler is just back from Majorca, where he met with chairman Dave Whelan to outline plans ahead of next term.
“We’ve been chatting about next season, and I have to say things are really taking shape,” Whelan told the Evening Post.
“Uwe’s looking to bring in a striker, and he thinks he’s got one.
“We’re looking to bring in three or four players in total. That should do us for the new season.”
Latics managed only 61 goals from their 46 league games last term.
And the need for striking reinforcements has been exacerbated by the off-season departure of Nick Powell and Jordi Gomez – their two leading goalscorers from last season.
