TWO-times winners Wigan Athletic return to the Football League trophy with a trip to Crewe Alexandra.

Latics, who won the competition under its former titles of Freight Rover trophy and Autowindscreens Shield in 1985 and 1999 respectively, received a bye into the second round.

It’ll be the first time the club has played in the competition, now under the banner of the Johnstone’s Paint trophy, since the 1-0 defeat to Doncaster Rovers in 2002.

The game will take place during the week commencing October 5.
