WIGAN Athletic are mulling over a second offer for Brentford striker Will Grigg after seeing their opening gambit turned down.
The Bees were unimpressed with the offer, believed to be in the region of £700,000, and the ball is now firmly back in Wigan’s court.
Gary Caldwell has already missed out on Dundee United striker Nadir Ciftci, who opted to joi Celtic after Latics had an offer of £1million accepted.
He remains interested in Billy Sharp of Leeds and Rotherham’s Matt Derbyshire, having completed the capture of free agent Craig Davies on Tuesday.
Chairman David Sharp guaranteed the arrival of a 20-goal-a-season striker this summer, and 24-yaer-old Grigg would appear to fit the bill.
The Northern Ireland ace scored 22 goals last term on loan at MK Dons – including a brace against Manchester United in the League Cup – as they clinched automatic promotion from League One.
His former club Walsall have a sell-on clause of 25 per cent, which is why Brentford are holding out.
