WIGAN Athletic are hoping to land the signature of Middlesbrough striker Lukas Jutkiewicz.
The 25-year-old, who scored against Latics for Bolton at the Reebok Stadium while on loan there last season, is rumoured to be the subject of a £1million bid from Derby,
However, it’s believed that Wigan are willing to match that figure with Wolves and Bolton also chasing his signature.
Meanwhile, Latics secretary Chris Laird has revealed the reasons behind the club choosing not to play any pre-season friendlies at the DW Stadium.
Latics yesterday announced a game against Turkish outfit Besiktas at Leigh Sports Village on July 15, the second to be played there, four days after one against Walsall.
“We’ve decided that following 29 games at the DW Stadium last season and with the rugby season still in full flow, playing at Leigh makes good sense,” explained Laird.
“We want Uwe Rosler and the team to have the best surface possible to play on for the first game against Reading on August 9.”
