WIGAN Athletic are gearing up for their first ever European fixture at the DW Stadium.
Manager Owen Coyle and midfielder Jordi Gomez met with the media today (Wednesday) to discuss the visit of NK Maribor tomorrow night.
Latics’ first Europa League game saw them travel to Belgium to face Zulte Waregem last month.
The squad held an open training session at Christopher Park before the press conference, where Coyle revealed his players’ determination to do well in the competition.
“I think they enjoy the freshness of the challenge of the Europa League,” he said.
“The game is live and everybody gets to see both individually we’ve got good players and as a team.
“Every competition you enter, you want to win games and want to be successful.
“We, as a group, want to qualify from this stage we’re in and progress to the knockout stages and to do that we’ve got to knock out some very talented opponents.”
Don’t miss the big match build up in Thursday’s Wigan Evening Post.
