LATICS are going on another European tour as they ramp-up their preparations for a promotion push next term.

Chief executive Jonathan Jackson has revealed part of Uwe Rosler’s first pre-season in charge will see the manager take his squad to face opposition in the country of his birth for a four-match tour when the club’s players on World Cup duty return.

“We’re going on a pre-season tour to Germany at the end of July, where we will play two friendlies which will be announced shortly,” Jackson said.

“They are high-profile German teams who we’ll be playing which will be a big test, as well as two games against local opposition.”

Last season, Latics prepared for their first year in the Championship with a tour of the USA which saw them win three matches against Columbus Crew, Dayton Dutch Lions and Pittsburgh Riverhounds.

But this year Latics could face much higher-calibre opposition as they set their sights on a return to the Premier League at the second time of asking.

And Jackson hopes fans will take the opportunity to see their favourite team on their summer holidays.

“That’s all coming together, and we would encourage any fans who would want to come over and support us on another European tour.”

Latics have been named among the top 17 seeds for the Northern section of the Capital One Cup draw.

The draw is based on the final league positions of the 2013/14 season and will be announced at 10am on Tuesday, June 17.
