Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has been linked with a shock move to Wigan, according to reports.
The ex-midfielder, who retired after United’s 2012-13 title-winning campaign, has been linked with the under-23s job at Old Trafford, vacated by Warren Joyce who took over from Gary Caldwell at the DW Stadium earlier this month.
But reports suggest Joyce is keen to tempt Scholes to Wigan, hoping his expertise will have a positive effect on his squad.
Scholes doesn’t hold a UEFA Pro Licence coaching badge, having not coached since retiring.
Instead, the 41-year-old has opted for TV work with ITV and BT Sport.
And according to Alan Nixon in The Sun on Sunday, Latics boss Joyce could also turn to ex-United colleagues Paul McGuinness and Jimmy Ryan.
