ALI Al Habsi has called on Latics to make the most of a win he called ‘my best moment in football’.
Al Habsi was once again in top form as Latics recorded a memorable 2-1 victory at Liverpool at their weekend – their first-ever away triumph at one of the Premier League’s so-called elite.
The three points have given Latics a massive shot in the arm in the race to avoid the drop.
And Al Habsi says they must hammer home the advantage when Stoke visit the DW this weekend.
“Any win at Liverpool is fantastic, and we can take great confidence from it for next week’s game with Stoke,” he told the Evening Post.
“If we can just improve our form at the DW, everything will work out okay.
“Saturday’s result may have surprised a few people, but it has been coming.
“We’ve been unlucky for a number of weeks, playing well and creating chances, but not managing to get our rewards.
“But on Saturday we got the luck – and we got the win.
“To go to Anfield and help to make a little piece of history with Wigan is fantastic.
“It’s huge for everyone – for the players, the manager, the fans, the whole football club.
“It was my best moment in football.”
The win takes Latics to within a point of safety and only three points adrift of fifth-bottom Blackburn with eight matches still to go.
Wigan’s final two games of the season are against Blackburn and fellow strugglers Wolves – meaning their destiny remains very much in their own hands.
“Of course we can do it,” Al Habsi added.
“We have another eight cup finals to go and the performance at Liverpool will hopefully give us the push we need.
“The fans were amazing on Saturday and we’ll need them again this weekend against Stoke.
“One big push is all we need to stay in this division – we did it last year and I’m sure we can do it again.”
