WIGAN Athletic boss Roberto Martinez has been charged by the FA for comments he made following his side’s game with Manchester United on September 15.
The Spaniard was furious with referee Michael Oliver when he awarded the Reds a controversial penalty after Danny Welbeck went to ground following a challenge from Ali Al Habsi.
After the game, Martinez suggested that he felt bigger clubs are more likely to get decisions.
An FA statement said: “The charge is in relation to an alleged breach of FA Rule E3 concerning media comments which implied that the match referee and/or match officials in general are motivated by bias and/or brought the game into disrepute.”
Martinez has until 4pm on Thursday to respond to the charge.
