DAVE Whelan expects to discover ‘very soon’ whether he will need a new Wigan Athletic manager.
Whelan last night gave Liverpool permission to speak to Roberto Martinez about the vacant managerial post at Anfield.
The Spaniard was keen to speak to the Merseysiders, who are believed to have drawn up a shortlist of candidates they wish to interview.
First up appears to be Martinez, who has kept Latics in the Premier League against the odds for three years since moving from Swansea in 2009.
Whelan says he’s not surprised the Reds have come calling, but he wants a decision - either way - as soon as possible.
“Whatever happens, it won’t be a long, drawn-out process,” he said.
“I don’t work like that, I like to get things done as quickly as possible.
“If Roberto does go, we’ll need to move on and find ourselves a new manager.
“And if he’s not the man for Liverpool, they’ll have to move on and find the man who is.
“Either way, it’s in no-one’s best interests to draw this out, so I would think it’ll be sorted out very soon.”
