WIGAN Athletic boss Roberto Martinez has been fined £10,000 by the FA following comments made in the media after his side’s game with Manchester United last month.
The Spaniard requested a personal hearing with the game’s national governing body after he had reacted furiously when Danny Welbeck’s dive won United a penalty on September 15 at Old Trafford.
The Latics boss told the media that he thought referees favour bigger clubs.
The charge comes less than 24 hours after Wigan midfielder Jordi Gomez saw his red card from the game against Sunderland rescinded.
An FA statement read: “Wigan Athletic manager Roberto Martinez has been fined £10,000 after he admitted a charge of misconduct in relation to media comments made after his side’s game against Manchester United on September 15.
“The charge was in relation to a breach of FA Rule E3 concerning media comments which implied that the match referee and/or match officials in general are motivated by bias and/or brought the game into disrepute.
“Martinez, who had requested a personal hearing, was also warned as to his future conduct.”
