JAMES McClean was delighted to make a return to the Latics starting line-up on Tuesday.
The electric winger was his usual dangerous self and was arguably the man-of-the-match in what was a strong Wigan performance which saw them draw 0-0 with Nottingham Forest.
It’s been a frustrating start to the campaign for the Irish international, with injury playing its part.
Before Tuesday McClean had only made two substitute appearances but now he has impressed by playing 90 minutes, he’s looking to kick on.
“It was nice to make my first start of the season after what’s been a frustrating and long period on the sidelines,” he said.
“It was great to be involved again and play my part.
“I’ve been out for a long time so I’ve been itching to get back on the field.”
While Wigan didn’t get all three points, McClean twice came close to finding an elusive goal.
The performance was much more assured than in recent weeks, though, and the winger has challenged his team-mates to keep that up.
“We should be performing in every game not just the big ones, especially if we want promotion,” he said.
“We gave a reaction on Tuesday which we’ve talked about doing all week.
“We can’t let ourselves down against Wolves now, we need to go one better and win and push ourselves up the league.”
